Use official booking paths, match your passport details and treat a timed entry as a real appointment.

Popular museums, historic sites and viewpoints may require a ticket, a timed reservation, or both. A few careful checks make that process much easier for foreign visitors.

01

Separate a ticket from a time slot

Some places charge for entry; others are free but still require a reservation. Special exhibitions or evening sessions may be separate. Before paying, confirm the date, entry window, what is included and the change or cancellation terms.

02

Start with an official route

Search results can include resellers and services with extra fees. When possible, begin with the attraction’s official website or account, then use a trusted booking provider if needed. Avoid an unfamiliar page that rushes you, requests unrelated permissions or asks you to install an unexpected app.

03

Match booking details to your passport

Many attractions may compare a reservation with an identity document. Enter the name and passport number exactly as they appear in the passport, and carry the original passport on the visit. Save the booking confirmation offline; a phone screen is useful, but should not be assumed to replace the original document.

04

Arrive before the entry window

Timed entry is not the same as arriving at the gate. Finding the right entrance, security screening and queues can all take time. Save the attraction’s Chinese name and the correct entrance on your map, and aim to reach the area 20–30 minutes ahead when practical.

05

Check flexibility before the day arrives

Read the rules for changing or cancelling as soon as you book. A late train, weather or a long transfer can make a tight schedule expensive. Avoid stacking distant attractions back-to-back; a realistic itinerary is more valuable than collecting the most reservations.

Before you book: verify the official route, date, entry window and cancellation rules; enter passport details exactly; save the right entrance; and keep time for security and queues.

IN-DEPTH PRACTICAL NOTES

Book attractions around identity and entry windows

Popular attractions may control daily capacity through named tickets and timed entry. The booking is useful only when the passport, date, entrance and collection procedure all match the traveller’s plan.

Use the venue’s official channel

Find the official website, verified account or authorized ticket platform linked by the venue. Check when reservations open, whether foreign passports are supported and whether every visitor needs a separate record. Avoid a reseller that cannot state the exact ticket, cancellation conditions and entry method.

Enter identity details exactly

Use the passport that will be carried on the visit and match its name and number. Review date, time slot, visitor category and entrance before payment. Children, students and older visitors may need specific proof; eligibility should be confirmed rather than inferred from age alone.

Prepare for the gate

Save the confirmation and Chinese venue name offline, arrive within the stated window and allow for security. Some venues use the passport as the ticket while others require a QR code or collection desk. If the booking fails, contact official support before buying a duplicate ticket.
